can you believe it’s almost the end of the year? i can’t. and i feel like it was just last weekend we went to stella had some slices of pizza… but nope, it was 3 weeks ago!
if you haven’t heard about this pizzeria, it’s one of the starr restaurants. after the opening of continental, buddakkan, etc etc to recent parc at rittenhouse square, it is kind of unexpected that their latest project is about pizza.
in general, food was good. not amaaazing, but good. if you’re looking for a casual chic restaurant to sit down, get some bites, some house wine, coffee and dessert – pizzeria stella will be a fit for you.
i love these long, sharable dinning tables especially. wood, subway tile, plus vintage (maybe?) chairs/benches, plus industrial pendant lamps, make the restaurant feel more like a low key neighborhood pizzeria rather than the usual glamorous starr restaurant.
we ordered marinara, pepperoni, and lamb bolognese. it was interesting the waitress tried to remind me friendly “there’s no cheese in this type of pizza” when i ordered the marinara pizza. …hmm. marinara basically is made from tomato, garlic, oregano and extra virgin olive oil, no cheese should be involved anyway. but i guess everything always has cheese added in this country, not to mention pizza.
the ground meat was hearty and rich – with cinnamon added to spice the lamb flavor. if you like lamb (and cinnamon), you will like this dish. i like the simple marinara pizza, but this dish was even more satisfying :)
next time i will save some room for gelato and a cup of coffee. if you’re around at 2nd and lombard (yes, in philadelphia ), give it a try! http://www.pizzeriastella.net/
