Waterfront Synopsis Conference, Norway

Join PPS on September 15-17, 2010 for “Waterfront Synopsis”, an international gathering around the topic of “Placemaking and Sustainability” on waterfronts hosted by Project for Public Spaces, Inc. (PPS) and the Nordic Urban Design Association ( NUDA ) in Stavanger, Norway.

The important themes of the conference include creating “Multi-use Destinations”,  forging an “Architecture of Place”, expanding the idea of accessibility and the role of transportation on waterfronts and the important potential impact of markets on local economies.

為什麼會選在挪威舉辦呢？如果你們有常在注意一些近期都市更新案例，不難發現挪威在近二十年來相當有計畫性的整合都市機能，其中又以從80年代就開始的大規模都市更新(  urban renewal )所規劃的”未來城市 Fjord City”最讓人注目。這些城市包括Aker Brygge, Tjuvholmen以及Bjørvika。

由Oslo Waterfront Planning Office執行推動的未來都市主要是針對Oslo的水案進行一系列重整規劃，包括新建的中央車站Central Railway Station,歌劇院Oslo Opera House以及商業大樓Barcode Project。一些文化中心，文教機構包括 Oseberg Ship, Oslo Public Library(Deichmanske main library) 以及 Munch Museum也將陸續遷移到Bjørvika，而主要的連接交通要道也將合併至隧道Bjørvika Tunnel。

擁有這些豐富的水案規劃經驗，挪威這次將在Stavanger市與美國的PPS機構合作，一起來探討如何創造一個多種使用目的，使用的親近容易度( accesibility )以及運輸系統在水案開發扮演的角色，討論也將延伸至這些開發對於當地經濟市場的可能衝擊。
